  • Check in at 09.45am
  • Depart Belfast at 10.00am
  • Carrickfergus Castle (Photo Stop)
A medieval castle as impressive and memorable as any in found in Westeros!  The pageantry, chivalry and the monarchy of the time all played a part in Carrickfergus Castle's incredible history! It being built in the same time zone as the HBO series is set, makes this castle an absolute must see first stop. The sieges, the murders and the executions carried out here all connect this incredible piece of medieval architecture directly to the series!
  • Carnlough
Series six saw Carnlough harbour feature for the first time. This harbour although built in the nineteenth century during the famine years, still retains an olde world charm, which meant that it didn't seem out of place when it first appeared in Game of Thrones. Few go swimming in the harbour today, but there was a time when "a girl just might"!
  • Cushendun
This area has many strong links with the series! It is a stunning coastal location with incredibly rugged yet beautiful geological features! What happened in these Cushendun caves took many committed fans by surprise.  Melisandre's shadow baby was born here and for a while this area was very "dark and full of terrors"
  • The Dark Hedges Experience
Learn about the history and mythology of the faerie trail, experiencing an in-depth guided tour of The Dark Hedges and surrounding estate. Your dedicated guide will reel you back through the years on this stunning location and explain how it weaves it’s magic into the Game of Thrones story. Enjoy hearing about the history of the famous ‘Dark Hedges Doors’ where you will end your tour with a photo opportunity at the ‘7th door’! You may have escaped the scheming and duplicity of the capital!  However, escaping by way of the "Kings Road" has its own dangers. Beware the "Grey Lady," for in reality, Melisandre has nothing on her!
  • Lunch stop at The Hedges Hotel (optional)
  • Giant’s Causeway
The Giant’s Causeway is Northern Ireland's very own "Eighth wonder of the World."  No eloquent description will ever do it justice!  Only seeing it is believing. The Giants and Fairies that inhabit this area in Irish mythology make their Game of Thrones equivalents look more like Darby O'Gill and the little people. *Please note, there is no access to the visitor centre on this tour.
  • Dunluce
This now-ruined medieval castle was the inspiration for many local fantasy writers! It's cruel past, the enmity between wealthy families and the ruthless resolution of disputes gives Dunluce castle more than a passing resemblance to "the Dreadfort" or "Harrenhal"!  It is an ideal, if somewhat chilling location for a photo stop!  This Ulster Dreadfort has endured turmoil and murder every bit as horrific as any of the castles of Westeros...

With 200 year old beech trees, some uneven terrain and a busy road to cross the Dark Hedges Estate presents several hazards. Therefore, the health and safety of our guests and staff is our top priority, and we aim for a zero serious harm injury rate. The Dark Hedges Experience coordinate with a site wide Health and Safety Committee to ensure initiatives are undertaken to reduce and eliminate any harm.

There is also a significant training of our Storyguides through our ‘Spirit of Hosting’ programme to ensure guests do not venture into potentially unsafe zones and are informed of possible hazards on the Dark Hedges Estate and off the site ground.

We do encourage all guests to wear suitable footwear and have invested extensively in pathways to safely guide visitors through the Dark Hedges Estate. If parking within the Dark Hedges Estate, please ensure that you watch out for other moving vehicles and pedestrians. In wet weather, surfaces including footpaths, decks and stairs can become slippery, we ask all guests to be careful around these surfaces. The Dark Hedges is a popular visitor attraction drawing thousands of visitors daily, please watch out for bus coaches, cars and cyclists before attempting to cross over to the Dark Hedges or pulling out of the Estate parking zone.

We provide wheelchair access wherever possible, though some stairs may limit access to some sections of the Dark Hedges Estate.

By entering the Estate, the visitor agrees to be prevented from suing or otherwise claiming against the Dark Hedges Estate for any property loss or personal injury.

Thank you,

The Dark Hedges Experience
